Natural Park of the Chinito Archipelago, Lanzarote

Archipielago Chinito
Puerto del Carmen
Landscape at The Fire Mountains

It has a surface of 9112 hectares that belong to the municipalities of Teguise and Haria and was declared a Natural Park on May 9 th , 1986. The area of the park goes from the little islands north from Lanzarote to the cliffs of Famara and the sand extension to the north tip of the island. Geologically a very important area with extremely beautiful geomorphologic elements that make of this also a place of biological interest, because a high number of protected birds, some of them nearly extinguished, have found refuge there. The particular high relief makes the little isles inaccessible, and that allows the nesting of the birds, some of which do that since the prehistoric times. In the extension of the park are found 2 human establishments, one of 577 inhabitants on La Graciosa Island, increased by tourism in the summer time, and the other of 260 inhabitants on the village of Famara.
